Whenever Uncle Paul was in Minnesota, Matt enjoyed spending time with him. Paul was entertained by Matt's antics. One year for Christmas, one of Matt's gifts was a set of molds to make edible body parts out of a jello-like liquid. Paul called this Matt's Dr. Demento kit. When the family visited Paul in California, Matt bought a plastic shark with candy inside at Sea World.
It kept him occupied for hours. Paul had a hot tub, and Matt spent a lot of time in the tub. When Matt was older, Paul started calling Matt the "Sidewinder." It was a nickname
that stayed with Matt.
