Merri - I was glancing through the Pioneer Press this morning and happened upon your son's memorial. I noticed the website address at the bottom, so I decided to take a look at it. I was very touched by the way you have honored your son. I loved the part about how the teachers thought he wanted to be called Matty. I can tell your son was truly special. My thoughts are with you and your family on his 22nd birthday.

Dear Merri - Kim and I were thinking of you yesterday . We hope that Matt's birthday was
a day that brought some laughter with fun memories of your wonderful son to help offset the tears that missing him brings.

Peace and Love, Dan and Kim O'Brien

Hi Merri - How nice it was to open my Pioneer Press on the bus to work Wednesday morning to see Matt’s smiling face peeking out at me! Happy Birthday, Matt! I thought of you and your family all day Wednesday....hope you and his friends had a nice day remembering him. Anyway, take care. Just wanted to check in with you, and let you know I enjoyed seeing Matt again a couple days ago.

My Daughter Megan Lostetter went all through school with Matt. She always thought he was the most adorable kid...and he was! Those beautiful eyes, great looking hair and that wonderful smile is how she remembers him. He was just a charmer with the girls, esp. in 5th and 6th grade at Pilot Knob.
Love, Margaret Lostetter

I don't know Matty's family but I spent a lot of time with Matty back in the day. The crew and I have been thinking and talking about Matty a lot lately. Matty always lit up any room
he was in. We all miss him so much. Thank you to everyone organizing the bowling tourament, we all need it. It will be nice to remember all the great times we had with Matty, while doing something he loved. (How did you meet Metty?) Honestly I don't remember it was so long ago when we first met and after that we were all together everyday almost.

Hey all. Another reminder that the memorial bowling tournament is fast approaching. For those of you who do not know who Matt Young was...He was a fine young man that was struggling to get sober and have a better life. Booze was still giving him a lot of trouble until August 28th 2005 when he had a tragic accident that took his life at age 21. I worked with Matt on and off for about 2 years attempting to help him get and stay clean and pursue that ever elusive good life. He played a large part of that time in my own sobriety and owe him a great debt of appreciation and gratitude. He loved to bowl, so we are gonna bowl in his honor on August 27th...here...check out this notice. PeaCe, Ya'll! Oh yea, don't forget to check out www.remembermatty.com....it'll tell ya a bit about who he was and how truly loved he was by so many.

Hi Matt, This Friday is another Flag Day night. I always think of you and your family on this day. We all had so much fun passing out the flags and either having it rain none stop on us as we walked thru the Highland Park neighborhoods getting soaking wet or it was so hot and the ground was so hard we broke many flags. Remember when your mom almost took off my arm when I reached into her car for more flags, I’ll never try that again. I still can see you and the big beautiful smile of yours regards of the weather. I’m glad you’re always looking over my shoulder and you always make me smile. Happy Flag Day - Love Tom
